This blog was originally started to better help me understand the technologies in the CCIE R&S blueprint; after completing the R&S track I have decided to transition the blog into a technology blog.
CCIE #29033
This blog will continue to include questions, troubleshooting scenarios, and references to existing and new technologies but will grow to include a variety of different platforms and technologies. Currently I have created over 185 questions/answers in regards to the CCIE R&S track!! Note: answers are in the comment field or within "Read More" section.

What protocol is an industry standard replacement of CDP?
1 comments:
CDP - Cisco Discovery Protocol is used to discover devices using layer2. CDP can discover and learn about other Cisco network devices on the network. CDP is Cisco proprietary.
LLDP (Link Layer Discovery Protocol - 802.1ab) and LLDP-MED (Link Layer Discovery Protocol Media Endpoint Discovery)
LLDP - (Open standards) is neighbor discovery protocol and is used to advertise information about itself to other network devices on the network. Communicates at the data link layer. LLDP supports attributes called TLV (type length value). These include
-Port description
-System name
-System description
-System capabilities
-Management address
-Port VLAN ID
-MAC/PHY configuration/status
LLDP-MED - is an extension to LLDP and was created to primarily support VOIP. The additional TLVs are supported
-LLDP-MED capabilities
-Network policy
-Power Management
-Inventory management
-Location
Global Configuration
"lldp run" - to enable LLDP
"lldp holdtime (sec)" - change holdtime
"lldp reinit (sec)" - change the delay time for LLDP to initialize
"lldp timers (sec)" - changes the update timers
To disable transmit and receive on an interface
Interface Configuration
"no lldp transmit"
"no lldp receive"
LLDP-MED is not sent by default
To enable use interface configuration
"lldp med-tlv-select (tlv)" - Specify the TLV
"show lldp"
"show lldp ?" for a list of available show commands
