This blog was originally started to better help me understand the technologies in the CCIE R&S blueprint; after completing the R&S track I have decided to transition the blog into a technology blog.

CCIE #29033

This blog will continue to include questions, troubleshooting scenarios, and references to existing and new technologies but will grow to include a variety of different platforms and technologies. Currently I have created over 185 questions/answers in regards to the CCIE R&S track!! Note: answers are in the comment field or within "Read More" section.

MRM - Multicast Routing Monitor - Benefits include:
- Alert administrators when there is a multicast routing problem in near real-time
- can find mcast issues prior to an event
- easy diagnostics
- scalable.

MRM has two components which includes
MRM Tester - acts as a sender or receiver
MRM Manager - manager

To test based on the diagram
show ip mrm manager

To start a test
Manager#mrm start MCAST
(sends RTP packets to the multicast group specifed every 200ms - the receiver expects to see packets in the same interval and if the receiver detects packet loss in the default interval of 5 seconds it sends a report to the MRM manager )

Manager#show ip mrm status - displays packet loss, shows duplicate packets

To stop a test
Manager#mrm stop MCAST
