This blog was originally started to better help me understand the technologies in the CCIE R&S blueprint; after completing the R&S track I have decided to transition the blog into a technology blog.

CCIE #29033

This blog will continue to include questions, troubleshooting scenarios, and references to existing and new technologies but will grow to include a variety of different platforms and technologies. Currently I have created over 185 questions/answers in regards to the CCIE R&S track!! Note: answers are in the comment field or within "Read More" section.

GLBP - Gateway Load Balancing Protocol uses the concept of AVG (Active Virtual Gateway) - Routers configured to use GLBP elect one AVG and all other routers become a backup AVG. AVG's assigns a virtual mac address to all nodes participating in GLBP and is responsible for answering all ARP requests sent to the virtual IP. Each node is responsible for sending traffic that is sent to its virtual mac address and these nodes are referred to as AVF (Active Virtual Forwarders). Load sharing is achieved by the AVG which answers ARP requests for the virtual IP address, the AVG responds to the ARP request with one of the virtual mac addresses of the AVF's.
